As part of the bachelor’s thesis, I created a practical piece to complement the theoretical section.
My thesis “Colorful Propaganda – How Kids Cartoons Can Shape Ideologies” explores how children are exposed to propaganda, with a particular focus on media consumption and the role of cartoons.
The practical piece addressed the question of how ideological values can be conveyed to children in a simple and age-appropriate way. Since the main topic is propaganda, I chose to promote an issue on which children usually have no firmly established opinions, presenting it in an exaggerated way while applying classic propaganda techniques and methods.
Ultimately, I decided to portray climate change and its supposedly positive aspects propagandistically, to both downplay its seriousness and to ease potential fears about the future.
I created the sketches, the storyboard and the backgrounds in Procreate and animated everything frame by frame at 12 fps in Toon Boom Harmony. Final touches such as color correction and special effects, like the fog, were added afterwards in Adobe After Effects. Last but not least, I created the sound design, including voicing the protagonist.
